Hailing from the sunny island of Haiti, Christy Joseph grew up listening to stories and wanting to tell her own. Born to an exuberant family, dinner conversations were some of her favorite memories. These ranged from animated breakdowns of the day’s news to old Haitian folktales. Although she absorbed these accounts wholeheartedly, she struggled to find her medium until a chance visit to the now-closed Cine Imperial in Port-au-Prince in the mid 2000s. It was there that she discovered her love of photography and moving images. Moving to New York a few years later would only deepen her interest. The city’s eclectic fashion scene, frantic pace and diverse mix of people offered themselves as stories waiting to be told. Fast forward to 2023, and Christy is a filmmaker with a fashion sensibility and a penchant for telling stories that foster community and move multiculturalism forward.
